FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Runners Who Have Truly Gone the Distance

- September 19 2011-

Going the distance can mean many things; however, in Malcolm Anderson’s The Messengers, profiling150 runners from around the world who have completed 100 or more marathons and ultras, going the distance is redefined by those who have gone far more than the extra mile.  These stories come from around the world, from South Africa and Australia to England and the United States and from runners of all ages, all with their own unique stories to tell and each highlighting a different side to the sport and the people who are involved with it.

Among the inspirational stories are those of Bob Dolphin, an 80-year-old man who recently completed his 452nd marathon since he took up running at the age of 48 and Sigrid Eichner who holds the world record for most marathons completed by a woman who had completed close to 1,500 marathons at the time of writing.  There are quirky stories, such as the one of John Wallace of London, whose friend bet him five pounds that he couldn’t run the London marathon and another five that he wouldn’t do it in costume; since then, he has registered for all of his 250 marathons as Clark Kent and run them dressed as Superman and Todd Byers, an American who has run a total of 250 marathons, 80 of them barefoot.

These are just a few of the unique stories that comprise The Messengers.  Anderson’s collection of stories is truly a must-read for anyone who is a marathon runner or is thinking about or training to become a marathon runner, showcasing the many elements of life that are present in the sport.  Anderson’s “Messengers” have truly gone the distance, setting themselves apart in a world of elite athletes, all with their own messages to share with other marathon runners. Truly, an inspirational must-read.
